According to the data of the State Enterprise Centre of Registers, there were 1008 business companies operating in Kėdainiai district on 31 December 2016. According to the legal form of business companies, most of the operating companies were private limited liability companies (UAB) and individual enterprises (IĮ). In Kėdainiai district, private and public limited liability companies (UAB and AB) comprised more than 57 percent, individual enterprises – over 31 percent, while the number of small partnerships (MB) continues to grow. Last year, the latter comprised 10 percent of all the operating business companies.

The region has mostly very small or small business companies with up to 50 employees.
At the end of 2016, 6 large business companies operated in Kėdainiai district (5 industrial companies - AB Lifosa, AB Nordic Sugar Kėdainiai, UAB - Kėdainių konservų fabrikas, UAB Texdan, UAB Krekenavos agrofirma and 1 transport company - UAB Transporto vystymo grupė), which, last year, were the largest employers of the residents of our district.

According to the data of the board of the social insurance fund of Kėdainiai department, on 31 December 2016, there were 16 534 employees working in Kėdainiai enterprises, which is 1,5 less employees than during the same period in 2015.

According to the data provided by the Department of Statistics, the average bruto wage is increasing in our municipality since 2014. The Department of Statistics did not yet provide the data of the fourth quarter of 2016, however the average bruto wage in Kėdainiai district, excluding individual enterprises, was 788,40 EUR during the third quarter of 2016. Our municipality is in fifth place according to the average wage – larger wages were paid in Vilnius, Klaipėda, Visaginas and Kaunas city municipalities.

At the beginning of 2016, there were 29 197 of working age individuals, 14 313 out of which were youth. Population decline tendency is observed in all age groups. The number of working age people declined by around 2 percent during the year. This decline was largely influenced by population emigration. Since the motives of emigration are mostly economic, related to work and payment possibilities, mostly economically active people of working age emigrate. According to the data of the Labour Exchange and the Department of Statistics, actual supply of jobs reaches 24 090 people, and 5 106 people are jobless from this number. Unemployment rate both in the country and in Kėdainiai district municipality was 8,5 percent at the end of 2016.

During 2016, 52 small and medium business companies were registered in Kėdainiai district municipality, and, since 2015, it is observed that there are less people who want to start a business. There were 64 registered companies in 2014 and 58 companies in 2015. And, as mentioned previously, last year the number was 52. Private limited liability companies remain the most popular business form. Last year, 29 of such companies were registered. Small partnerships are becoming increasingly popular when business is legalized - 22 of such enterprises were registered. Individual enterprises are becoming an unattractive form of business and only 1 such enterprise was registered last year.

17 business companies became bankrupt last year, 5 of which are still undergoing bankruptcy proceedings. Last year, 66 business companies received the status of a liquidated company. A trend can be observed that the number of bankruptcy cases in decreasing.

According to the data provided by the State Tax Inspectorate, 1211 natural persons worked under a business certificate in 2016. The number of those working under this business form remains stable for several years now. The most popular activities include trade, hairdressing and beauty salon services, constructions, vehicle repairs and sale.

According to the flow of direct foreign investments, Kėdainiai is in 3rd place among Lithuanian municipalities. The share of direct foreign investments flowing to Kėdainiai municipality per one resident is 6 573 EUR. At the end of 2015, this share was larger by 2,5 times compared to the average of Kaunas county and almost 41 percent larger than the average of the Republic of Lithuania. According to the growth rates of direct foreign investments, Kėdainiai traditionally gives away the top positions to Vilnius city and Kazlų Rūda municipalities.
