A second pilot project, for which up to €20 million is earmarked, will also be agreed with the EIB.

“Through these two pilot projects, we aim to establish a permanent funding model that would enable our country’s industrial estates to develop and make effective use of sustainable energy, thereby increasing their energy self-sufficiency. Our aim is for sustainable energy solutions in industrial areas to become not just isolated initiatives, but long-term practice. Once we have implemented these two pilot projects, we will lay the foundations for a permanent state funding scheme. “This will help to develop Lithuania’s free economic zones and industrial parks, and increase the energy independence of the companies operating within them,” says Edvinas Grikšas, Minister for the Economy and Innovation.

The aim is to enable the first project selected in the national call for proposals to apply for funding before the end of this year. Once the funding for the second pilot project has been agreed with the European Investment Bank (EIB), it is planned to make this opportunity available in the second quarter of 2027.

Projects funded by the Modernisation Fund would include the expansion of solar power stations, the installation of energy storage systems, the fitting out of ice storage facilities, the utilisation of surplus heat from industrial plants, and the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. These solutions would make it possible to increase renewable energy production, use it more efficiently and reduce the costs associated with the consumption of traditional, polluting energy sources.

These investments will contribute to the achievement of Lithuania’s energy and climate targets – increasing renewable energy generation, storing it, and making more efficient use of surplus heat generated by industry.

The projects that took part in the national selection process were developed under the ‘Green Industrial Park’ strand of the Modernisation Fund, which aims to promote the transformation of industrial sites into low-carbon, energy-efficient zones that apply the principles of the circular economy.

Further information:

First €14 million for the green industrial transition; up to €20 million earmarked for the second project – Ministry of Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania

The Ministry of Economy and Innovation has finalised the funding for the green industrial park – the European Investment Bank (EIB) has […]

[2

post-9009","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
