Babėnai Quarry was excavated between 1950 and 1953 and used as a sand and gravel deposit. The southern shores are steep, with cliffs covered by the Babėnai forest. The eastern shores are also steep, overgrown with forest and dense reed thickets. The western shores are steep as well, bordered by a wide (>10 m) reed belt. The northern shores are shallow, covered with reeds and bulrushes. The quarry measures about 500 m in length and 400 m in width. Its depth is 2–3 meters, with shallow shorelines. In summer, the Babėnai pond becomes a popular swimming spot. The bathing area has been renovated with new stairs, piers, fresh sand on the beach, changing cabins, benches, and bicycle racks. Climb up to the new observation deck and enjoy the view!
