This site marks the place where, on February 11, 1953, in a battle with MGB (Soviet security) units from Kėdainiai and Ramygala districts, two leading Lithuanian partisans were killed: Colonel Juozas Šibaila-Merainis (b. 1905), Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the Union of Lithuanian Freedom Fighters (LLKS) Council and Head of Staff of the Great Battle District, and his deputy, Povilas Žilys-Klevas (b. 1916 or 1918), also a member of the LLKS Presidium.
On February 16, 1949, Juozas Šibaila, together with seven other LLKS leaders, signed the LLKS Declaration. On January 12, 1999, the Seimas (Parliament) of the Republic of Lithuania recognized this Declaration as a legal act of the Lithuanian state, and Šibaila was proclaimed one of its signatories.
In 2012, one of the first archaeological excavations of partisan bunkers in Lithuania was carried out here.
