he Memory Square began to take shape in 2014 at the intersection of J. Basanavičius and Dotnuvos Streets.
A globe-shaped monument was erected here, designed by architect Marius Mateika, who was later entrusted with designing the future memorial. The globe-shaped monument, “To Those Who Fought Against the Occupiers to Restore a Free and Independent State”, was funded by bequests left by emigrant compatriots.
The memorial later gained another small hill, where the names of all local people who gave their lives for Lithuania’s freedom were commemorated.
