The Truskava Retreat House is cared for by the Sisters of the Handmaids of Mary Congregation (CSSBMVI).
The sisters live in the retreat house in Truskava, where they welcome people for personal prayer and group retreats. They also organize prayer weekends.
The nuns are settled in a two-story brick house built in 1930, which originally housed the St. Vincent de Paul orphanage. The chapel of the retreat house is adorned with stained-glass windows created by the well-known Lithuanian stained-glass artist Vytautas Švarlis (1943–2022).
According to priest Antanas Kungys: “In 1929, I began building a large St. Vincent de Paul orphanage – a two-story brick building with a basement. In 1930, in the Year of Vytautas the Great, the construction was completed and roofed with tin. The house accommodated church servants, elderly and disabled parishioners, a small credit bank, and a school. [...] The orphanage, built in the name of St. Vincent de Paul, remained wealthy. Benediktas and Barbora Gaska from the village of Dvariškiai donated their 30-hectare farm to the orphanage. The Likenskas family from the village of Likėnai also entrusted their farm to the same orphanage.”
