We offer old town guided tours in Lithuanian, Russian and English
Although a small town, Kėdainiai is extremely rich in history and its cultural heritage. The old town, the historic centre, is a national urban monument protected by the state. Large parts of the ancient town structure, planning, street network and buildings dating back to the fifteenth century have been preserved.
For almost three hundred years the town belonged to the most powerfal noble family of Lithuania, the dukes Radvilas. Some of their family members are buried at the Evangelical Reformed Church.
Kėdainiai was one of the centres of Reformation in Lithuania. An elegant Renaissace Gymnasium Illustre is the oldest school building in Lithuania.
There lived Scots (over one hundred Scottish surnames have been found in the historical sources of the town!), Jews, Ruthenians, Germans... having left their distinct footprint in the town. You will see some impressive Scottish merchant houses and Jewish synagogues, catholic and protest, German Lutheran and orthodox churches.
