Babėnai quarry was dug up in 1950–1953 and used as a sand and gravel pool. The southern banks are steep and overgrown with Babėnai forest. The eastern banks are steep and overgrown with forest and reed beds. The western banks are also steep, overgown with a wide (>;10 m) strip of reed beds. The northern banks are shallow, also overgrown with reed and bulrush beds. The length is 500 m, and width is around 400 m. The depth is 2-3 metres and the shores are shallow.
