The 1765 Town Inventory mentioned this house as being constructed of brick. The exact date when Jacob Gray acquired the house is unknown; perhapsit was duringthe 1730s when he sold two lots and a brick house on the other side of Didžioji Street. Gray retained ownership until 1765.
Jacob Gray was mentioned earlier in 1724 when he purchased a lot nearby on Didžioji Street and paid its owner, Robert Livingston, 50 thalers (German silver coins).
A visit to Gray House – today a restored restaurant and hotel – gives an impression of how the merchant houses in Kėdainiai were designed. Some original features survive: the storage areas in basement with vaulted ceilings, and the red brick facade on the ground floor looking into the courtyard.
