The museum was established in 1965. Its exposition, formed from Kėdainiai museum collection items, tell the story about a writer, folk educator, the author of "Balanos gadynė", book smuggler and the first certified Lithuanian agronomist Mikalojus Katkus (1852–1944), as well as about the village life at the beginning of the 20th century. His work "Balanos gadynė" tells the story of how Lthuanians lived and worked in the second half of the 19th century. It is a picture of an entire era, astonishing with its brightness and abudance of details, as well as with the scent of the long gone past. In order to provide education to the village, Mikalojus Katkus taught the village children in Ažytėnai how to write. Please call via the indicated phone number if you would like to visit.
