The Synagogue was built in the middle of the 19th century. It was built by the richest tailor of the town I. Vilneris. The building, where wealthy Jews would pray, is two storeys high. Men would pray on the first floor and women on the second floor. On 17 September 1997, two memorial plaques in Lithuanian and Hebrew languages were placed on the wall of this synagogue to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the death of the great Jewish religious thinker Gaon of Vilnius Elijahu. Even though this synagogue did not exist when the Gaon of Vilnius lived and studied in Kėdainiai, the memorial plaques were placed due to the fact that the synagogue complex was completely abandoned in the Old Market Square at that time.
Now the synagogue houses an art school. Open on weekdays.
